Modern civilizations are very vulnerable to stormy and unseasonable weather, we have only to read through the newspapers to see the extent of the disaster than these extremes in weather patterns can cause.  Millions have faced famine in Africa because of drought, hundreds of thousands have died in cyclones and floods in Bangladesh, and in America billions of dollars in damage has been caused by hurricanes and tornadoes.  Heavy snowstorms have brought modern cities to a standstill, storms sink ships and thunderstorms have destroyed aircraft.

Many organizations exist around the globe to deal with Natural Disasters, such as  the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in America and The State Emergency Service (SES) in Australia.  In addition to these organizations there also exists the Red Cross.  The Red Cross has been responsible for aiding victims of natural disasters all around the world.
